Description: This marvelous urban view depicts the Worcester House almost hidden from the street by trees and shrubs. The streets, populated with people and carriages, gives a sense of scale. Printing under the image states: “F. H. Lane, del.” and “Moore’s Lithography, Boston, successor to Pendleton”.
Fitz Henry Lane (1804-1865) was a prominent American painter, mostly of marine scenes, and printmaker of the 2nd quarter of the 19th century. Lane learned many of his drawing skills working for lithographers. He was employed at Pendleton’s in Boston from 1832-1837.

Condition: Trimmed at the upper edge with loss of the top of the trees, professional restoration to blank lower right corner and several short edge tears. Even with faults this is a visually arresting lithograph from a major American artist.
