Description

Description: This impressive oil on canvas is a portrait of the world’s first liquified natural gas carrier that is powered by a heavy-duty gas turbine which burns boil-off cargo. This massive tanker seems to be adrift in the China Sea. The ships specs, the manufacturer, the artist, and the date are at the lower right: “LNG G/T Lucian 29000 qm Hilmar Reksten Bergen Paul Sverre Lervik 1974″ [tanker inaugural date].

Hilmar Reksten (1897-1980) was a Bergen, Norway shipping magnate.

We found nothing about the career of the very capable Norwegian artist, Paul Lervik.

Label on verso indicates the painting was given to the Lucian’s Fuel System Engineer, Shlomo Dreymann.

22″ x 28″ framed to: 25 1/2″ x 31 1/2”. Item #FA00413

Condition: Pinhole lower left edge, otherwise very good.
