Description: A balanced, elegant architectural drawing of a “Park Gateway” signed L. J. Schoefer. The drawing is 19 ½” x 28” on x 20 ½” x 29” watercolor paper. It is drawn in pencil and ink with colored washes in the sky, brick and ground. The gate’s design features an assortment of neoclassical design elements in playful harmony. There are pleasing faint graphite lines from the early draft of the drawing barely visible. The lower quadrant of the drawing is signed and titled in the middle of an aerial cross section: “Design. Park Gateway. Scale ½” =1’ April 9/06 L. J. Schoefer.” Item #FA00222.

Louis J. Schoefer was a mechanical engineer based in New York City. He entered Columbia University from the Stevens Institute in 1904 and graduated in 1907. He was director of the Schoefer Construction Company, based in Manhattan as early as 1910.

Condition: Small spot at the lower left and a chip at the upper right blank corner. Overall the drawing remains in good condition with bright color and clean paper.
