Description: We offer an original watercolor by Carl Weber. The composition is 12” x 19” in a period gilt frame which measures 21 ¾” x 28 ¾”. The work is signed in ink at the lower right: “Carl Weber”. This landscape shows a Tonalist influence with contrasting dark, inky earth tones and a glowing pastel sunset. The framing closely resembles other watercolors by the artist. Item #FA00188.

Carl Weber (1850-1921) was born in Darmstadt, Germany and raised in Germantown, Pennsylvania. In 1880 he established a studio in Philadelphia. His work was exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts from 1876-1891 and at the National Academy of Design in New York in 1880 and 1881.

Condition: The piece has been laid down on heavy cardstock, as have many of his works on paper. There is minor toning at the margins. Good condition overall with vibrant coloring intact.
