Description: This woven silk ribbon features a detailed grayscale image of a defiant Martin Luther nailing his 95 Theses to the door of Castle Church in Wittenberg, Germany. In red and blue thread at the top of the image are the words: “Birth of The Reformation Oct. 31 1517.” A hymn written by Martin Luther, as well as the music for the hymn, appear below the image, as well as a facsimile of Luther’s signature and his coat of arms. Accompanied by a printed description of the ribbon states in part: “The design utilized for this bookmark was selected from a number of competitive designs submitted by students of various Lutheran colleges.” It was made for and sold by St. Paul’s Lutheran Day School of Paterson, N. J., the “Silk City of America”.
