Description

Description: This delicately handled drypoint etching depicts a young unclothed woman dipping her toes into water. Tobin creates gentle shadows, hilly ground and running water with a minimal number of lines. Titled and signed in graphite at the lower margin: “The Stream George T. Tobin.” It is also marked “Trial print”.

George Timothy Tobin (1864-1956), born in Vermont, settled in New Rochelle, NY and made a living as an illustrator, teacher and portraitist. He was a founding member of the New Rochelle Art Association. His work is in the collections of numerous prominent art institutions, including; Smithsonian Institution, National Museum of American Illustration, Fogg Art Museum, NY Public Library, etc.
