Description: Forty-three glam photographs of various performers from “Au Carrousel” and “Chez Madame Arthur” are featured in the Le Carrousel program… a cabaret known in the 1950s for revues of cross-dressed and trans performances. The brochure is inscribed on the inside cover with the sentiment, “Pour Johnnie / Mon Bon Souvenir/ Claude.” The most celebrated trans woman, Coccinelle, signs, “Pour Johnnie / Avec amour million souvenir / Coccinelle.” The 16 signatures with sentiments include Claude, Zambella, Claude Lamar, Guilda, Claude Andre, Valdes, Hula Djengo, Jan Carlove, Jack-Lys, Lisa, Rolandys, Cricri, Max Montova, Coccinelle, Sylvain, and Pierre Gurvan. The images are from the time the club “Au Carrousel” was at “40, Rue du Colisée, Paris” and “Chez Madame Arthur” was at “75 bis, Rue des Martyrs, Paris.”

The 30-page program has a lace-print front wrap and is 9 ¾” x 7 ½”. Item #A02022

Le Carrousel had its beginnings as the cabaret “Chez Josephine” (1926) and was frequented by literary personalities and artists alike. A decade later, the club became known for its cross-dressed and trans performers. Many notable transgender persons, such as Les Lee, Coccinelle, Capuchine, Bambi, Kiki and others – were associated with the club.
