Description: Illustrated sheet music for Combat Naval, Oeuvre 36 by D. Steibelt. Printed on 13"x 9 1/2" laid paper in the late 18th c./early 19th c. by the publisher Jean Andre. The cover reads: “Combat Naval pour le Piano Forte avec accompagnement de Violon, Violoncelle et grand Tambour, compose par D. Steibelt, Oeuvre 36, A Offenbach s/m, chez Jean Andre.” Illustrated with a dramatic battle scene rendered with facile, energetic crosshatching. Item #PR00142. Daniel Gottlieb Steibelt (1765–1823) was a German born pianist and composer who died in Saint Petersburg, Russia. His main works were composed in Paris and in London. Condition: The paper is lightly toned with some scattered foxing. There is a small indentation which pushes through all the pages (without any paper or text loss). The piece has been disbound from a larger collection, but is complete in 11 pages, overall good condition.
