Description: This scarce broadside lists the program of events for the “Grand Tableaux in aid of the Sanitary Commission, At Tweddle Hall, [Albany, NY] Monday Evening, Feb. 1st, 1864.”
Highlights include: “Joan of Arc at the Stake”, “Scene from Last Days of Pompeii”, “Story of a Battle” and “Wax Work Figures.”
The United States Sanitary Commission advised on the physical and mental health of the military during the Civil War, assisted in the organization of military hospitals and camps, and aided in the transportation of the wounded. They distributed medical supplies, food, and clothing where needed.
