Description

Description: This part-printed vellum document appoints J. Frank Dillont “Major of the 13th Regiment of the National Guard, State of New York” on March 12th, 1880. A vignette of the seal of the State of New York is blazoned at the top of the document and a copper-colored star-shaped embossed “State of New York Adjt. Genls. Office” seal is at the bottom left. The Governor of New York, Alonzo B. Cornell (1832-1904), boldly signed at the bottom right corner. 
 
J. Frank Dillont signed an Oath of Office on the verso of this document stating that he “will faithfully discharge the duties” of his new office. David E. Austen [?], the Colonel of the 13th Regiment also signed the Oath of Office.

Condition: Lightly soiled, some small chips to edges, otherwise in very good condition.
