Description: This impasto oil on board is an extremely pleasing view of a hilly landscape in autumnal colors. It is signed lower left: “Alfred Hutty”. It appears to be untouched and still housed in its original Art Nouveau-style frame of wood, gesso, and gilding. Verso of frame retains a Salmagundi Club auction sale sticker which titles this work: “Landscape”.

Alfred Heber Hutty (1877-1954) studied art in Woodstock, New York with L. Birge Harrison. From 1919 on he split his time between Woodstock and Charleston, South Carolina. He is considered one of the founders of the Woodstock Art Colony, as well as, one of the leading figures of the Charleston Renaissance.

Condition: The painting would probably benefit from a surface cleaning, generally very good condition. Frame has several surface cracks, generally quite presentable.
