Description: In this 1933 autograph letter signed Christy scribbles his thanks to a “Mr. Beach” for sending “well wishes on my birthday” and apologizes for the delay in responding.
Howard Chandler Christy (1872-1952) was an American artist and illustrator. Although famously noted for his “Christy Girl,” he is also known for his WWI military recruitment posters. After the war, he turned to portraits, painting Theodore Roosevelt, Warren G. Harding, Calvin Coolidge, Herbert Hoover, Franklin Roosevelt, and Harry Truman among other significant people. He also taught art at Cooper Union, the Chase School, New York School of Art, and The Art Students League.
Written on a 10″ x 8″ sheet of Christy’s personal stationery that is imprinted: “Howard Chandler Christy 1 West 67th Street”. Item #A01561
Condition: Mailing fold lines, verso has glue remnants, otherwise very good condition with a large, bold signature.
