Description: We offer an engraved illustrated cover to the “Knickerbocker Schottisch.” The image is 7” x 11” on a sheet of ivory paper (10 ¼” x 13”) matted to 15” x 17”. The inscription under the image reads “U. S. M. Steamer Knickerbocker, Wm. Wilcox Commander, Boston and Worcester Rail-Road Line. Knickerbocker Schottisch dedicated to George W. Fellows Esq. New York, Published by Horace Waters, no. 333 Broadway, WT Hall & Son, no 239, Broadway. Lith. of Endicott & Co. New York.” Item #PR00175.

The Knickerbocker was a swanky steamboat on the Albany-New York night route. It had a total of 303 staterooms with additional berths that were set up after dinner service so that 600 passengers could get a night’s sleep on their journey down the Hudson River. It had such cache that clothing shops would advertise that their goods traveled in on the steamboat, so it was only natural that a traditional schottisch would be dedicated to the boat and expertly lithographed by the maritime printers at Endicott & Company.

Condition: Good condition, some faint ripples in the paper in the sky, it is archivally matted with two small areas of adhesive hinging tape on verso along the top margin.
