Description: In this autograph letter signed, Thomas Moore thanks the un-named correspondent for his musical compositions, offering him encouragement in further pursuits.

“Sir – I have had such pleasure in receiving the kind note with which you have forwarded me, as well as the very pretty and gracefully composed songs which accompanied it. You do not say whether it is your intention to pursue music as a profession, but, if so, it will give me great pleasure to lend any assistance that may be in my power towards forwarding your view.

Your very obliged & faithful servant, Thomas Moore”

Written on a 6 ¾” x 4 ¾” sheet of ivory paper and dated “Sloperton, August 22nd, 1833”. Included is a 19th c. steel engraved portrait of Moore. Item #A01919

Thomas Moore (1779-1852) was a prolific writer, poet, lyricist, and satirist. He is often seen as Ireland’s national bard. Out of financial necessity, he became a squib writer for the Whigs. He is most remembered for his biography of Byron (1830), the Irish Melodies (1808–1834), and the book of poems, Lalla Rookh (1817).

Condition:  Toned at perimeter, mounting residue on upper edge on verso. Writing is quite legible, generally good condition.
