Description: This part-printed vellum document certifies that Samuel Voorhees is “a legal attending Member” of the Montgomery Medical Society [Montgomery County, NY]. The embossed paper seal of the society is affixed to the left side of the document. It is signed by Stephen Reynolds, the president. Reynolds practiced medicine in the town of Florida, NY from 1785 until 1832 and then in Schenectady, NY. The Montgomery Medical Society issued certificates entitling its members to practice medicine and was one of the first in the Northeastern United States to hold clinics.
