Description
Description: A large, bold, early, and rare broadside for the Albany and Schenectady Turnpike.
In 1 1/2″ and 2 1/4″ typeface it reads: “Rates of Toll.” It goes on to state: “Granted by an Act of the Legislature of the State of New-York, passed the 30th day of March, 1802, establishing a Turnpike Road between the Cities of Albany and Schenectady. AT EACH GATE, For every Score of Sheep, 4 cents… For every Chariot, Coach, Coachee or Phaeton, 20 cents… BARENT BLEECKER, Treas’r. S[?][1]805″.
16 1/4″ x 15”. Item #AM00234
Condition: Two corners have paper loss… the upper left has no loss of text… the lower left has most of the location missing (though since the “S” is still there it probably was issued from Schenectady). It has several short tears repaired with archival tissue/tape on verso.
