Description
Description: This part-printed vellum document appoints J. Frank Dillont “Captain in the Thirteenth Regiment Infantry National Guard State of New York” on February 4, 1887. A vignette with the seal of the State of New York graces the top of the document, and a copper-colored embossed “State of New York Adjutant General” seal is at the bottom left. This military appointment is signed by David B. Hill (1843-1910) as the Governor of New York. Hill later served as U.S. Senator from New York (1892-1897) and was a Democratic candidate for President in 1892, but lost to Grover Cleveland.
Dillont signed an Oath of Office on the verso of this document stating that he “will faithfully discharge the duties” of his new office. Edward Fackner, Colonel of the 13th Regiment Infantry also signed the Oath of Office.
