Description: As Prime Minister of Great Britain, William Pitt the Younger (1759-1806) penned and signed this letter on February 13, 1786. The letter reads: “My dear Lord, If you see no Objection, I think it would be desirable that the Papers transmitted from the Indian Board, respecting the Question which has arisen on the dependencies of Nagapatnam, should be circulated, previous to them being mentioned in Cabinet; and perhaps they may go round in time for the Business to be settled tomorrow.”
William Pitt the Younger served as Prime Minister of Great Britain from 1783 to 1801 and as the first Prime Minister of the United Kingdom beginning in 1801. He took a brief respite, then resumed his position from 1804 until his death in 1806.
