Description: We offer two woodcut portraits depicting Martin Luther and his wife Katharina von Bora after Lucas Cranach the Elder (circa 1472-1553) or Hans Brosamer (circa 1495 – circa 1554). Printed on handmade laid paper, with a watermark in lower middle portion of the Martin Luther portrait. Both images are trimmed to the edge of the block: the sheet size of the Luther portrait is 12 3/4" x 10 3/8" and Bora portrait is 13 3/4" x 10 3/4". Item #PR00120. These woodcuts closely resemble marital portraits of the couple painted by Lucas Cranach the Elder and his workshop. Condition: There is some toning at margins, both pieces have horizontal creases (likely an artifact from the the printing process) and adhesive residue at the top corners on verso, otherwise very good.
