Description: This 1939 Modern Library edition of The Grapes of Wrath is signed and inscribed by John Steinbeck on the half-title page. The note reads: “For Rhoda Pollock with pleasure John Steinbeck”.

John Steinbeck (1902-1968) is one of the United States’ most famous writers and was awarded the 1962 Nobel Prize in Literature. His works are still widely read today, including: Of Mice and Men, East of Eden, and Cannery RowThe Grapes of Wrath is considered his masterpiece.

Published by Random House in New York (1939). Green cloth with gilt-stamping over boards, 619 pages plus an 8-page Modern Library catalogue. In original Modern Library dust jacket illustrated with “Departure of the Joads” by Thomas Hart Benton. 7 3/8″ x 5″. Item #A01686

Condition: Corners and spine ends rubbed, otherwise very good condition. Dust jacket has very minor chips at corners and spine ends and has been preserved in a Brodart jacket. Though a later edition, it is a very attractive copy of Steinbeck’s major work signed prominently.
