Description: President Zalman Shazar (1889-1974) was a Belarusian-born Israeli politician, author, and poet who served two terms from 1963 to 1973. He signed his full name in English just below the stamp and cancellation.
The cover is 4” x 6”; the stamp features a menorah flanked by olive branches and a ribbon with the blue and white colors of the Israeli flag which represents the eighth anniversary of Israeli statehood, commemorating Memorial Day for the fighters of the uprising. The image of an oil drilling rig is featured on the left side of the cover, above which “Independence Day 5777” is written in Hebrew. Below the image, also in Hebrew, is the inscription, “And oil out of the flinty rock” (Deuteronomy 32:12). The postmark shows Tel Aviv, Yafo, but the date of cancellation is not legible.
