Description: This deftly handled watercolor is signed lower right: “Leonard H. Reedy.” A brass plaque is affixed to the mat which titles this work: “Sioux Squaw and Travois.”
Leonard Reedy (1899-1956) is often referred to as “Chicago’s cowboy painter of the Old West.” He studied at the Chicago Art Institute and the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts. Several of his watercolors are on permanent exhibit at the Eleanor Roosevelt Historic Site (Valkill) in New York.
Sight size: 8″x 11″. Elaborately framed with a linen mat and gold fillet. Verso is sealed and has a Findlay Galleries, Chicago label. Item #FA00426
Condition: One errant 1/8″ pencil[?] line in sky, otherwise very good (not examined out of frame).
