Description

Description: An absolutely untouched gem! This wonderful painting is uniquely well-preserved since its original framing includes glass and a paper sealed backing. It’s a sweet, very well painted landscape done in oil on board by Claude E. Picault. There is a lone woman in the middle distance, walking down a rural lane under a wide expanse of cloudy sky, with large trees to the left and a stream and marshy area in the foreground. There are also a few very small, scattered sheep. The colors are deep and classically lovely in person; photographing the painting through its glass unfortunately makes them appear somewhat washed-out in this image.

Signed neatly in red "C. E. Picault.", lower left. In an elaborately carved gilt frame to 16" x 19 1/4"; the sight measurements are approximately 7 1/4" x 10 3/4". Item FA#00079.

There is very little information about Picault’s life and training, but we do know that he is French, and it seems that he worked in the later 19th/early 20th centuries.

Condition: The painting is untouched under glass; excellent. The frame has some losses, particularly at the upper corners.
