Description

Description: This is a wonderful, somewhat gruff, chest-up portrait of the 22nd and 24th U.S. President taken by Sarony. There is an identification that this is Cleveland on the mount beneath the photograph, not in Cleveland’s hand..

Ink stamps and pencil notes abound on the verso of the image, one of which indicates that this photograph was taken when Cleveland was “first elected President” and a stamp noting that this was in the Brown Brothers archive. There is also a taped-on, printed snippet about Cleveland.

6 1/2″ x 4 1/4″. Item #P00313

Stephen Grover Cleveland (1837-1908) had a lengthy political career, serving as Mayor of Buffalo (1882), Governor of New York (1883-1885), and President of the United States (1885-1889 and 1893-1897).

Condition: Tiny chips to mount edges, a couple of specks on blank area of image, generally very good condition.
