Description

Description: This original black and white photograph shows off Greyhound’s first sleeper bus as seen in 1928. Passengers pose for the camera, elbows leaning on their windowsills as the bus is parked against a backdrop of leafy trees and a large gazebo-like structure.

A typed description of the photograph is adhered to the verso and reads: “28360G – The first sleeper bus makes its appearance east of the Rockies. The lead-glass window marks the location of toilet and shower bath while directly opposite on the other side of the coach is refrigerator, hot plate for cooking and other culinary accessories. Forward in the coach are standard sleeping berths. To the rear is a large observation parlor equipped with movable chairs, radio and phonograph.” There is also a pencil note which reads: “Buss A1962” and an ink stamp which reads: “Referred-E. Dept. Dec 17 28 N. E. A.”

Condition: Top corners are clipped, 1″ tear at upper edge reinforced with tape on verso, light glue residue at lower fifth of image. Despite noted faults, image presents well and is generally in good condition.
