Description: This superb wall map is nearly 5′ square and depicts Columbia County, NY with numerous inset enlargements of villages and engraved images of notable sights and residences. Highlighted towns include: Lebanon Springs, Kinderhook, Hudson, Chatham, etc. Highlighted sights include: Hudson River Institute, Badgley Hotel, S. Becker’s Harness Shop in Valatie, Stockport’s Empire House, Columbia Springs House, etc.
The map was published by E. A. Balch of Philadelphia in 1858 from surveys by S. N. and F. W. Beers and D. J. Lake and printed in Pennsylvania by P. Smith. 59″ x 57″ plus wood hangers. Item #DA00449
Condition: Map is in exceptional condition for one of these large rolled paper on canvas wall maps. None of the usual extreme yellowing and almost no peeling of the paper off the canvas or paper loss. There is some light dampstaining in the upper (northern) towns and right blank margin. Retains its original wooden supports at top and bottom.
