Kathleen Blackshear (1897-1988), artist and teacher, studied at the Art Students League in New York City and, later, at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Drawing on her childhood on a Southern farm, she used Black people as her primary subject matter from 1924 to 1940. Her work is included in the collections of the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, the Art Institute of Chicago, among others.
