Description: This wonderful pen and ink and wash drawing depicts a lone polar bear in an icy landscape. It is signed “G. Ahgupuk” at the lower right and is drawn on a 4″ x 6″ piece of bleached walrus skin with an integral laced “frame”.
George Aden Ahgupuk (1911-2001), aka Twok, is known for his paintings and drawings of Inupiaq life, especially those done on walrus skin and caribou hide. His works are in the collections of such notable art institutions as: National Museum of the American Indian, Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery and Alaska State Museum.
