Description: English actor Edward Smith Willard (1853-1915) boldly signed this rather dapper cabinet card portrait of himself dressed in a three-piece suit and standing with his hands in his pockets. Willard made his stage debut in 1869 in The Lady of Lyons, played Antonio in The Merchant of Venice in 1875, and perhaps most notably, acted in H. A. Jones’ The Middleman in 1889. His success in England brought him to the U.S. in 1890, and he continued to return for American tours until he retired in 1906.
Cabinet card measures 6 3/8” x 4 1/8” and has the imprint of the New York City photographic firm “Falk”. Item #A00612.
Condition: The bottom edge of the mount is slightly trimmed, there is some toning from previous mat window.
