Description: This small panoramic photograph features the palatial Miami, Florida Royal Palm Hotel. Several sail boats float through the smooth water and palm trees wave decadently in front of the resort. The Royal Palm opened in 1897 and boasted five stories with a sixth floor salon and 450 rooms. The Royal Palm possessed Miami’s first electric lights, elevators, and swimming pool. The hotel was severely damaged during the 1926 hurricane and was ultimately torn down in 1930.
