Description: This large, attractive map depicts the British Isles — England, Scotland, Ireland. The title as printed in the cartouche: “Les Isles Britanniques qui contienne les Royaumes d’Angleterre, Escosse, et Irlande”. A separate title at the top margin reads: “Magnae Britanniae Tabula, Comprehendens Angliae, Scotiae, ac Hiberniae…”

This hand-colored copperplate engraving is by Alexis Hubert Jaillot, who first published it in 1695. Upon his death in 1712 the plates were acquired by the Amsterdam engravers/map sellers Reinier and Joshua Ottens. They published numerous atlases between 1730 and 1745 from which this map originated.
