Description

Description: This exquisitely detailed etching depicts Christ appearing as a gardener to Mary Magdalene, who kneels before him. Print is titled below: “Noli me tangere” and published by Nicola Billy.

This work was done after a tapestry Italian Renaissance artist Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino [Raphael] executed for the Vatican. It is estimated to have been printed between 1659 and 1663 and most museum holdings attribute the work to Michel Corneille the Younger.

Condition: Print has been tipped to a larger sheet with four spots of glue (at the corners) and some bleed-through to recto. There are one or two other spots of soil, but generally good condition.
