Description: This movie still from the 1939 film Rio is signed by English actor Basil Rathbone (1892-1967). Rathbone played the lead role of Paul Reynard, a French financier who was sent to a South American penal colony for bank fraud. In the scene depicted in this photo, a shrouded body is held aloft on a stretcher by two officers as the centrally-placed Rathbone speaks to a third officer and his fellow inmates gather around.
The image is signed “Sincerely Basil Rathbone” in blue ink. 8″ x 10 1/8″. A typed caption at the bottom of the image reads: “Basil Rathbone, Victor McLaglen, Robert Cummings in ‘RIO’. A Story of Outcasts with Sigrid Gurie, Leo Carrillo. A Realart Picture.” Item #A01883
