Description: This original 1860’s carte de visite bears the standing portrait of Dr. Austin Flint II dressed in a dark lab coat, hand resting on a microscope on the table next to him. Flint (1836-1915) was an American physician who assisted in establishing the glycogenic function of the liver; showed that one of the functions of the liver is to separate the cholesterol, a product of the nervous system, from the blood.

Identified on the verso in graphite: “Dr. Flint Jr.” There is also a backmark for J. Gurney & Son of New York City. Overall: 4″ x 2 3/8″. Item #P00335

Condition: Sides of mount are slightly trimmed. Generally very good condition.
