Description: Author Alan Sillitoe writes to Ms. Carla Urban and hopes for David’s recovery: “King David was a fighter, and that’s a fact, as well as a poet.” He also sends a copy of his recent work to David directly and asks if he wants any other of his books. The letter is signed: “All best wishes, / Sincerely / Alan Sillitoe”

Written and signed on a 10” x 8”  sheet of stationery bearing the address “21 The Street, Wittersham, Isle of Oxney, Kent.” Included is the  transmittal envelope with the return address in Sillitoe’s hand. Item #A02068

Allan Sillitoe (1928-2010) was a prolific English writer who was labeled one of the “angry young men” of the 1950s. He shunned literary awards and instructed his publishers not to forward his work for any prizes. He is best known for his debut novel, Saturday Night and Sunday Morning (1958), and his short story, “The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner” (1959), both of which were made into movies.
