Description: American aviation pioneer Jimmy Doolittle (1896-1993) signed this brief typed letter in 1972 in which he kindly thanks a fan for wishing him a happy birthday. It reads: “Dear Mr. Beach: Thank you for the fine birthday letter. It was thoughtful of you to write and the kind thoughts expressed are very much appreciated. Every good wish to you and yours for the Holiday Season and the New Year.”
Doolittle served as a flight instructor during WWI and gained fame for making many pioneering flights during the interwar period, including the first cross-country flight (from Pablo Beach, FL to San Diego, CA). He attended MIT where he earned his M.S. in aeronautics and received the first Sc. D. in aeronautical engineering ever awarded in the U.S.
Typed on a 10 1/2″ x 7 1/4″ sheet of Doolittle’s personal stationery. Item #A01492
Condition: Mailing fold lines, light perimeter toning, numerous vertical creases, mounting remnants on verso. Overall good condition with an energetic, bold signature.
