Description

Description: In this wonderfully vibrant painting, Duffaut flattened the birdseye perspective so that this part of Haiti hits the viewer all at once… there is nothing in the distance.

It is painted in oil on masonite which measures 20 1/2″ x 30″ and framed in a wide weathered/distressed frame with a label from the highly respected framers: “House of Heydenryk”. Overall size: 29 1/2″ x 39″.

Painting is signed lower center “P. Duffaut 66 Haiti”.

Préfète Duffaut (1923-2012) was a prominent Haitian painter. In the early 1950’s he worked on two murals for the Cathedral Sainte Trinite: “the Temptation of Christ” and “the Processional Road.” His work is widely collected and his presence still felt in the  contemporary Haitian Folk Art landscape.
