Description: The artist Sir William Russell Flint graciously thanks Mrs. Edey for her appreciation of his work, and tells her that “coincidentally – the very girl – ‘the delicious creature in the pale sky-blue skirt,’” Cecilia, was in his studio when he received her letter and was “hugely pleased” when he read the description aloud to her. He says that Cecilia left the picture, “A Garden in Languedoc,” for her mother when she married as it was her mother’s favorite. He adds, “I still paint Cecilia quite often.” He concludes with, “May I send you and your husband my blessings & gratitude?” Signed, “Very sincerely yours, / W Russell Flint.”

Two page autograph letter signed on 10” x 8”  personal letterhead bearing the address “Peel Cottage, 80 Peel Street, Camden Hill, W.8, Park 6561.” Included is the transmittal envelope addressed to Mrs. Kenneth Edey in Toronto, Canada.  Item #A02077

Sir William Russell Flint (1880-1969) was a renowned Scottish artist and illustrator, producing illustrations for several books, including the 1912 edition of Chaucer’s, The Canterbury Tales. He was the president of Britain’s Royal Society of Painters in Watercolors from 1936 to 1956 and was knighted in 1947. He was most known for his paintings of the female form. Although he achieved much commercial success, art critics were less disposed towards his work. Cecilia Green (1931-2003), trained as a ballet dancer, was his principal model.
