Description: Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz (1885-1966) signed this Marine Corps War Memorial Foundation form letter indicating that he will not be able to attend their annual meeting of the board of directors scheduled for June 18, 1953. Instead, he will be sending “Ben Edson” to act as his proxy. Rather than circling the words on the form letter, Nimitz has drawn small boxes next to the options of “I will” or “cannot” and then checked the boxes next to “cannot” as well as crossing out the ones next to “I will”.
Signed “C.W. Nimitz” at the bottom of an 11″ x 8 1/2″ sheet of “Marine Corps War Memorial Foundation” imprinted stationery with a large red image of the future Iwo Jima monument. Item #A01601
Chester Nimitz was Commander in Chief of the US Pacific Fleet during World War II and was a leading authority on submarines.
Condition: Mailing fold lines, two hole punches at the top of the sheet, otherwise very good condition with a strong signature.
