Description: American artist Thomas Willoughby Nason (1889-1971) created this line engraving in 1946 as a presentation print for the Miniature Print Society in Alexandria, Virginia. The serene scene features a flock of sheep ambling into a shed that stands near a barn, an enormous pile of hay between the buildings. Tall and lushly leafy trees fill both sides of the print under a bright sky.

Signed and dated in graphite at lower right: “TW Nason 1946″. Platemark measures: 1 7/8″ x 3 1/2″. On a 5 1/4″ x 7 1/2″ sheet of laid paper. Original presentation folder: 11″ x 8 1/2”. Item #PR00693

Thomas Nason produced more than six hundred wood engravings and around one hundred copper engravings in his lifetime. A self-taught artist who grew up on a farm in Massachusetts, Nason is known for his charming rural scenes and New England landscapes. His works are included in the collections of numerous prestigious institutions such as the Art Institute of Chicago, New York Public Library, Whitney Museum of American Art, Victoria and Albert Museum, and the Bibliotheque Nationale de France.
