Description: In 1936, during his first term as president, Franklin D. Roosevelt placed an order for a book about the navy from Albany, New York bookseller John E. Scopes. The book, title identified as only “Revolutionary Navy” cost $1.25 and was to be sent to the President at the White House.

Roosevelt, before his rise to the presidency and his term as Governor of New York, served as Assistant Secretary of the Navy (1913-1920) under Woodrow Wilson.

The post card order form measures: 3 1/4″ x 5 5/8″. A circular Washington D.C. postal stamp on the verso is dated September 17, 1936. Item #AM00310
