Description: In the finest wood engraving tradition, Cheffetz rendered this idyllic rural scene with precision and remarkable tonal variation.
It is titled and signed in graphite on the bottom blank margin: “Midsummer Vermont Asa Cheffetz”
Image size: 4 ¾” x 6 ¼”, printed on a 9 ½” x 10 ¼” sheet of paper. It is housed in its original folder as issued in 1936 by the Kansas City Woodcut Society. It is # 136 of an edition of 200. Item #PR00581
Asa Cheffetz (1897-1965) was a wood engraver whose studio was in Springfield, MA. He was a member of the National Academy and his works are in the collections of numerous prestigious art institutions, including: Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Art Institute of Chicago, Baltimore Museum of Art, etc.
Condition: Two spots of bleed through from the original mounting tape at the two upper corners, a short pencil-like line at the bottom blank margin, otherwise very good.
