Description: This typed letter signed by Governor of Kansas Alf M. Landon, dated March 10, 1933, is addressed to Mrs. Eliza S. Deal of Kansas City. The letter reads: “I have your letter of March 4th concerning the banks of Kansas. Of course you know since it was written that the President of the United States has issued a proclamation which covers the bank situation, and we in Kansas are governing ourselves by the regulations issued by the secretary of the treasury. I am sorry not to be able to help you, but we are all in the same situation in regard to withdrawals and shall have to abide by the regulations from Washington.”

Typed on a 10 3/8″ x 7 1/4″ sheet of the governor’s official stationery. Item #A01900

Alf Landon (1887-1987) served as Governor of Kansas from 1933 to 1937. During his gubernatorial years, Landon attempted to address the needs of his Depression-battered state while still advancing the Republican Party. Landon was the Republican Party’s presidential nominee for the 1936 election though he ultimately lost in a landslide defeat to President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

Condition: Mailing fold lines, otherwise very good condition with a large, strong signature.
