Description
Description: A fine impression of this detailed drypoint etching of a woodcock sitting on her nest. It is signed in graphite at the lower margin: “H. E. Tuttle imp.” and is, significantly, inscribed to the famous decoy carver “For Charles E. [Shang] Wheeler” (dated “1 Nov. 1934”). Etching is dated in the plate: “June 8, 1930″.

Henry Emerson Tuttle (1890-1946) received his training at Yale University and the Slade School in London. He went on to be curator of prints at the Yale University Art Gallery and was a member of the Chicago Society of Etchers, Brooklyn Society of Etchers and the American Federation of Arts.
Condition: Lightly toned at mat window, hinged on recto of upper blank margin, otherwise very good.
