Written on 7” x 4 ½” stationery imprinted: “Station, Billericay. Stock Lodge. Stock, Essex.” Item #A01922
General James Willcocks (1857-1926) served most of his military career in India and was briefly in South Africa (Boer War). He was the Governor and General Officer Commanding Bermuda from 1917 to 1922.
A.M. Purcell was the editor of The Royal Gazette and the Colonist. He was known to poke fun at everybody including himself, and everyone took him seriously but himself. He came to be called “Bermuda’s Samuel Pepys.”
