Description: In this oil on canvas Benton has expertly captured a certain light and calm at a coastal church on the Italian island of Capri.
Painting is signed and dated lower left: “Dwight Benton – Capri – 1902″
Dwight Benton (1834-1903) was born in Norwich, New York, but spent the latter part of his life in Rome. He is especially known for his Italian landscape paintings around Naples. He won a medal for painting at the 1872 Cincinnati Industrial Exhibition and exhibited at the National Academy of Design in 1880.
Stretcher: 12″ x 20″, in a weathered oak frame to 15″ x 23”. Item #FA00353
Condition: Scattered in-painting, especially in the upper right sky area. Generally good condition.
