Description: In this charming autograph letter signed Schreyer has sketched the head of a horse and states in part: “Dear Miss I have the pleasure to send you a portrait of one of my best friends and I hope it will find a place in your collection”.
Adolf Schreyer (1828-1899) is known for his excellent equine draughtsmanship. He was associated with the Dusseldorf School of painting and the Orientalist movement. His works are in numerous prominent institutions, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Letter is 5 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ and matted with a period photograph of the artist with palette in one hand, a cigar in the other, and one of his orientalist paintings in the background. Framed to: 9″ x 12″. Item #A01404
Condition: Letter has a mailing fold line, photo has a crease, generally very good (not examined out of frame).
