Description: American writer Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr. (1809-1894) signed this short note of 1887 with a steady hand. Holmes writes to his correspondent that he asked a question that "Neither my eyesight nor my time allow me to answer".
Holmes was one of the Fireside Poets, a group of New England writers that achieved national acclaim and whose works were read aloud by the family fireplace. Other poets in the group include: Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, William Cullen Bryant, John Greenleaf Whittier, and James Russell Lowell.
Written in ink on a piece of cardstock measuring 2 3/4" x 5". Item #A00507.
Condition: Mounting remnants on verso, slight smudge on a few letters of signature, some ink marks on the paper, otherwise very good.
