Description: This very painterly impressionist landscape features a prominent tree at the shoreline of a river. The roof of a house can be seen in the distance. Signed and dated in ink at the lower right: J. H. Boston 1887.

Joseph Henry Boston (1860-1954) was a painter known for society portraits, as well as, landscapes and genre scenes. He was a member of the National Academy of Design, Salmagundi Club, Allied Artists of America, etc. At the turn of the century he joined fellow artists in the Society of Brooklyn Painters, later the Brooklyn New School of Art.
