Description: In this June 13, 1888 autograph letter signed American artist Ellen Hale writes in part: “…I should be very glad indeed to exhibit in Cincinnati, and I wish I could add to my two French plates, but I fear the only other thing I can send is a little proof which I will try to have sent…” The recipient, “Mr. Koehler” is possibly Robert Koehler (1850-1917), a German-born artist and arts organizer.
Ellen Day Hale (1855-1940), Boston impressionist painter and printmaker, studied with William Morris Hunt and at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts under the Directorship of Thomas Eakins, as well as, Academie Julien in Paris. She exhibited widely in the late 19th century and early 20th century at the Boston Art Club, Paris Salon, Royal Academy of Arts, etc. She was also a founding member of the Charleston [SC] Etchers’ Club.
Written on two pages of a folded 7″ x 9″ sheet of paper. Item #A01885
Condition: Vertical fold has separation at the edges that has been reinforced with archival tissue/tape. Generally good condition.
